7 legal rights of women.

We are living in a dark and messed up the world where goddesses are worshiped while women are harassed.  One of the ways to escape from such happenings is to aware about the laws which are made for the protection of women. Most of us are unaware of the legal rights. So, given below are 7 laws which every woman should aware. 

1. No Arrests At Night 

It is not possible to arrest women after sunset or before sunrise except if prior permission has been taken from the magistrate. Women can be taken into custody only in the presence of a woman officer with proper dignity. 

2. Child Marriage 

The Child Marriage Restraint Act in 1929 fixes the age of marriage for girls as 14 years and boys as 18 years which was later amended to 18 years for girls and 21 years for boys.  This act is not only for girls but the incidents reported indicate towards the juvenile girls. 

3. Domestic Violence 

Domestic Violence comes under Section 498A of the IPC. Domestic violence is a pattern of behavior which includes violence or other abuse by a person against another in a domestic setting, such as marriage or cohabitation. This law is applicable to or against any men or women. 

4. Succession of Property 

 The Hindu Succession Act gives daughters equal rights with sons and subjecting them to the same liabilities and disabilities same as that of a son. Both the son and daughter have the equal rights on the property. 

5. Women Officers for Women Offenders 

Only women officers can stop, detained, questioned women offenders between 6 pm and 6 am. Women cannot be questioned or taken away in the absence of women officers. 

6. Eve Teasing 

Eve teasing means Sexual Assault or Sexual Harassment of women either by verbal or making any vulgar gestures or whistling or staring. Sections 294, as well as 509 of the IPC, forbid any individual or group of people pass any kind of offensive comment or execute any such gesture towards a girl. 

7. Registration of Complaint Via E-Mail 

Women can register a complaint through email or registered post addressed to the Deputy Commissioner or the Commissioner of Police. One of two senior police officers would then forward the complaint to the rightful SHO who verifies the complaint and file a FIR.
